Horus The logo above is an adaptation of the ancient Egyptian symbol for the sky god Horus. The modern version - a capital letter "R" with an "x" on the tail of the R (Rx) used by physicians and drug stores on their prescriptions - is the one you are probably most familiar with. The eye of Horus is also called the Sacred Eye and is the most common and most mysterious of countless Egyptian symbols. According to a myth about the phases of the moon, the wicked god Seth plucked out the eye of Horus and tore it to bits. But the wise god Thoth stuck it back together again - as if it were just a cracked grain of barley. And so each part of the eye became a hieroglyphic sign for a fraction used in measuring out bushels of grain:
